Drug Interactions with Food, Alcohol & Other Meds

If combined, certain medications, food, and alcohol can render Modalert ineffective or increase the risk of side effects occurring. It is important to be aware of these substances and avoid them when taking this modafinil-based medication.

The following drugs are known to cause interactions when coadministered with Modalert:

• clopidogrel;
• deflazacort;
• bosutinib;
• rifampin;
• methamphetamine;
• midazolam;
• itraconazole.

Modalert can be taken with or without food, but it is advisable to avoid fatty foods. This is because they slow down the drug’s absorption in the gut and can ultimately affect its onset of action. Additionally, it is important to avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice, as they can increase the concentration of modafinil in the blood, increasing the risk of adverse effects.

Do not consume alcohol while taking Modalert. People who have combined these substances have reported experiencing severe side effects. There have also been reports of the combination causing a blackout. Note that this is not an exhaustive list of substances that can interact with this medication.
